The graphite drawing pencils are specially made for drawing purpose apart from the writing pencils, which are commonly used. These pencils are made of graphite or black lead (plumbago) mixed with clay. You can get variety of pencils from harder to softer pencils. They come rated by hardness labeled from 9H to 9B. The H signifies the hardness of the pencil. As the number in front of H gets higher the mark of the pencil gets lighter. The B rated pencils are the softest. If you want the a darker mark go the pencil labeled B with the highest number in front because the higher the number in front of B the darker the pencil would be.
The H pencils will facilitate you to draw detailed lines whereas the B pencils with rich dark lines will enable you to produce expressive bold drawings. The colored drawing pencils can be used in two different ways – when dry it provides very subtle colors but if you wet the graphite drawing pencils give you more vivid colors.
